Design Museum Holon opened in March 2010 and quickly established itself as one of the world’s leading museums of design and contemporary culture. Housed in an iconic building designed by the internationally acclaimed architect, Ron Arad, Design Museum Holon is a dynamic resource for designers, students, creative industries and the general public.

Each year the Museum presents an exciting and varied program of exhibitions and events, dedicated to helping visitors gain a deeper understanding of design and the role it plays in our lives. Design Museum Holon serves as a design “nerve center”, a communication crossroads, fostering and facilitating an international dialogue among designers worldwide.

The establishment of Design Museum Holon is a high point in the ongoing process of transforming the city of Holon into an epicenter of culture and education. The Museum seeks to embody Holon’s longstanding dedication to art and knowledge and its desire to elevate the field of design into a leading position on the Israeli cultural agenda. The new museum joins the Holon Institute of Technology, Mediatheque and the National Israeli Cartoon Museum, all founded in Holon.

The Design Museum Holon Collection is a young, evolving, and dynamic collection that extends over four main continuums:

‍Historical Design – design works created in Israel from the 1930s to 2000

‍Contemporary Design – contemporary design works created in Israel and around the world from 2000 onward

‍Commissioned Works – works especially commissioned by the Museum for its exhibitions

‍Academic Projects – a selection of graduate works by students from Israeli design academies.

The Collection’s four continuums include unique objects, items produced in small editions, models, items produced in large editions, furniture, visual communication items, textile designs, fashion, jewelry, shoes and accessories.

The Collection deepens and broadens our understanding of design and its role in our lives. Since design methods, technology and product manufacture change and develop rapidly, certain objects that mark innovation almost immediately become part of the history of design.

The decision to collect along four continuums enables the Museum to create content and subject-matter cross-sections that are independent of time and place.

Through the Collection one can learn about directions and trends in contemporary design and reflections of technological changes that are manifested in the selection of objects. In addition to the permanent Collection, four special exhibitions are launched each year.

The Aharon Feiner Eden Material Library at Design Museum Holon services professional Architects, Designers, Engineers and Industrialists with updated information regarding the latest innovations of the Material World. Its objective is to mediate between the Design Professionals and the Industrialists, fostering cooperation and enabling business initiatives. The Material Library’s team also strives to educate the future generation of Designers and Architects to material and technology innovation. It offers lectures, conferences, special book promotions, tours, and consulting services among other things.

The Aharon Feiner Eden Material Library at Design Museum Holon holds hundreds of samples of materials of various qualities, textures, colors, prints and uses, available for sight and touch. These materials are also presented on the library’s website, a search engine for materials that provides full information on every material, as well as a link to the manufacturer of supplier.

The Museum’s Education Department offers an array of programs and projects for children, teens and adults.
